There are two skill tests – literacy and numeracy. You will not be timed on how long it takes you to complete these tests, however this should take about 30 minutes in total.

You may not use a calculator in these tests.

You may use a sheet of paper for notes or working out figures.

Study the attached Process Sequence Chart. We use this to tell us the different steps to be taken when assembling brake hoses.

For example, the first step is to ‘Receive Raw Hose’. The second step is to ‘Cut Hose to Length and Mark Sight Lines’ etc. You will sometimes see ‘Assy’, this is a shortened form of the word ‘Assembly’.

The symbols on the chart are identified on the key at the bottom of the page and these tell us what is done at each step of hose manufacture.

For example, an arrow means that the part assembled hose is transported from one area to another, a circle in a square means the hose must be 100 percent tested at that stage.

Using the Process Sequence Chart, answer the following questions:

Study the attached Process Control Plan. This is used to identify how the hose should be checked and by whom as it is assembled. It also shows what should be done if the hose is not correct.

The Process Control Plan has numbered steps that correspond with the step numbers on the Process Sequence Chart.

The checks that need to be done are shown under the ‘Characteristic’ column on the Process Control Plan.

For example, step 16 is ‘Assembly of the Roll Pin’, if you look at the Process Control Plan step number 16 you will see that there are two checks to make sure the assembly is correct. The first check on correct assembly is a visual check done by the ‘Cell Op’ (this is short for Cell Operative) when the job is first set up and at the when the run is finished. The second check also a visual check is done by the Cell Member on 100 percent of the parts.

Using the Process Control Plan, answer the following questions:
